Dean Jobling
RECYCLED GLASS ARTIST

Dean’s work is prolific with quite quirky pieces of glass like flat Newcastle Brown Ale bottle clocks, or his beautiful large glass plates.

Dean also sells Monkey Balls, large nuts with burnt patens that are also made into candle holders.

Christine Kennedy Doxford
Artist, designer & musician

At the moment my main work is creating mixed media collages of handmade paper pressed plants and watercolour, influenced by Old Herbals Tree and Plant Mythology. Collages inspired by flowers of the Zodiac, covering the 12 Zodiac signs, are available as limited edition prints direct from the artist. New themes are based on the Tree of Life, music and harps.

I like to draw and paint bold pastels of flowers, gardens, and stone structures. I also create exclusive handmade recycled papers laced with botanicals, threads sequins etc. for letters printing cards and craftwork.

My hobby is singing and playing the harp. I have developed a repertoire to play at receptions, weddings, and christenings.

Amanda Galbraith
BEWITCHING JEWELLERY

People all around the world have for centuries adorned themselves with magnificent gemstones. Celtic tribes of (North Humber Land) now Northumberland, (Bebbanburgh) now Bamburgh and beyond, have mined gemstones and minerals using them not only as jewellery but also as currency.

They believed by harnessing the unique beauty and power of crystals they could change their lives. The Romans mined silver at nearby Tynehead in Cumbria. Nenthead and Killhope mines produced not only lead but many beautiful stones such as flourite and rock crystal were also found in these rich mineral deposits “ I make a selection of beautiful crystal & semi precious stone jewellery gaining inspiration from our ancient cultures and beautiful landscape”.

Commissions need not be expensive, please contact me at Pebbles and look for your birthstone, anniversary gem or your full moon.

Skilfully stitched and worked these cushions are bright and many are filled with aroma just right for those snugly curled up days next to a log fire.

Jane Alexa Cowley
Contemporary Ceramics

I am a second year student from Newcastle College studying a foundation degree in Contemporary Ceramics Practise. I first found ceramics when I completed my B-Tec foundation course in art and design. The tactile nature
of the clay got me hooked, I knew straight away it was the area in which I wanted to specialise. At the moment, my work reflects satellite images of the Earth.
The technique I am using is slip mono-printing. Once applied it creates a rough textured surface, which absolutely amazes me.

I asked to take some photographs of Pebbles for my 2nd year project about cafes, I visited Pebbles several times completely drawn in by all the art and projects going on there. I decided to design and make contemporary table tidier that was later bought and is now being used in Pebbles Café. I also gained a distinction at college for this work and now I have my own pitch at Pebbles and sell my work. We are also planning to convert the loft area and use it as a workspace.

Jenny Bell
POTTERY & CERAMICS

Having originally trained as a graphic designer, painting ceramics was Jenny’s hobby until 1996 when it became a full time business.

The designs Jenny produces are constantly evolving and some are never repeated. The main themes of their work are flowers, animals and countryside and over the years Jenny’s ceramics have become quite collectable, as each one is hand painted and therefore unique.

Lynne Dent
HAND KNITTED & CROCHET

Lynne’s craft some would say is a dying art but Lynne has transformed knitwear to show this skill is very much alive. Lynne also produces starter kits for those who would like to learn or revisit this craft.

Bob English Wood Carving

During my youth I was apprenticed as a platter at Consett Iron Company constructing anything from oil rigs and blast furnaces to exhibition pieces for industrial shows.

Later I became interested in old machinery such as steam traction engines and vintage vehicles.
I restored several vehicles including a unique vintage lorry, which is now in a museum in Cornwall. This love of old machinery led me to find and restore an old wood turning lathe awakening a great interest in wood working and turning.

Eventually I turned away from woodturning and started creating forms and shapes, which the colour, texture and even the faults in the wood suggested to me. As wood is natural medium no piece is ever the same, making every sculpture unique. I have recently added various metals to my sculptures using mild steel copper and silver with great effect, enhancing the beauty of the wood.
